20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Futurama

4. Howard Stern Is Overrated

Futurama has an obscene amount of nods to popular culture, even when compared to the reference-heavy The Simpsons. While most of them are pretty obvious for the fanbase, a fair few reach out beyond the realms of sci-fi.

In The Luck Of The Fryrish, another emotional Fry backstory episode, the gang head down into Old New York where Fry gets to live out a long held dream, screaming "Howard Stern is overrated" from an upturned newspaper vendor. Some older fans may have known who Stern is (this was before America's Got Talent), but not many will have fully understood the joke.

It's not Matt Groening using Fry as his soapbox, but sly revenge on behalf of voice artist Billy West; the man behind Fry, Zoidberg, the Professor and more stopped working with Stern after the two had a falling out.
