8. Untitled David O. Russell Series

The Weinstein Company

As with their collaboration with Matthew Weiner, another example of Amazon's desire to truly break into the upper echelons of TV producers is this series from Oscar-nominated director David O. Russell.

While the $70m they reportedly paid for Weiner's series is huge, they paid over double for this, with a reported price tag of $160m for a two-season, 16 episode order.

Not a great deal is known about the project, except that it's a mafia drama series (which should be comfortable territory for Russell), and that it'll star Robert De Niro (picking up a cool $850k per episode) and Julianne Moore.

Moore is almost always great, and has appeared on TV plenty times in the past (such as an excellent guest role on 30 Rock). De Niro gets a lot of (deserved) criticism for his recent output, but Russell seems to know how to get the best out of him, while the Silver Lining's Playbook director will write and direct every episode himself.
