Just when you think you're finally starting to get your head around the ever evolving Doctor Who mythology, Steven Moffat decides to through an almighty spanner into the works. Such was the case back in 2013 when, to coincide with the show's imminent 50th anniversary festivities, John Hurt was revealed as a secret guilt-ridden incarnation of the Doctor during the climactic closing moments of the Series 7 finale. And thus the stratosphere of the Doctor Who fandom was well and truly ripped apart. It still hasn't recovered.
