20 TV Acting Performances That Are Totally Flawless

11. Andrew Lincoln - The Walking Dead

Tony Soprano The Sopranos
AMC

There is no doubt in anyone's mind that The Walking Dead has its issues. It's been inconsistent, alienating and overlong, but there's one important thing that's kept it going for so long (outside of its loyal fanbase) - and that's the excellence of the ensemble cast.

From Norman Reedus to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Steven Yeun to Melissa McBride, The Walking Dead has created some truly staggering characters out of some equally inspired performances. But no one can claim to have been as consistently amazing as Andrew Lincoln, who played protagonist Rick Grimes for the show's first nine seasons.

As Rick, Lincoln had to play a man who was at first the show's moral centre, only to steadily lose everything to the dangerous world around him and adapt to the extreme in order to protect those he loved.

Some of Lincoln's more recognisable habits ("Carrrlllll!") have sparked a whole series of memes, but nothing can take away from the raw emotion he was able to bring to the screen for so many years.
