25 Best Superhero TV Shows Of All Time

19. Swamp Thing

Arrow Season 1
DC Universe

Following the DC Universe's unexpected success with Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing sought to give fans another dark reimagining of one of DC's most underappreciated heroes.

Based on a character that was often unfairly threw into the bracket of cheesy heroes given his outlandish concept and previous interpretations, this series' greatest strength lay in its ability to subvert the expectations of everyone watching. A hauntingly dark show that capitalized on the darkness of the character's origins, Swamp Thing leaned into the horror genre in order to offer superhero fans something they had never seen before.

A terrifyingly beautiful aesthetic mixed with some genuinely fantastic performances from Crystal Reed, Derek Mears and Andy Bean, the show was stunning both on the surface and beneath it. Its core mystery remained a great hook throughout its 10-episode run and watching it unfold was a thrilling (and chilling) experience.

We're not sure we'll ever forgive the streaming platform for cancelling this one.
