BBC Studios

Ian Thompson was born in August 1939, and would appear in two of the First Doctor's serials - The Web Planet and The Chase. The Web Planet featured such creatures as the Zarbi - aliens designed for the primary reason of rivaling Terry Nation's Daleks for merchandising ideas.

Thompson himself would appear in other works such as the BBC's 1967 adaption of The War Of The Worlds, wherein he played the 3rd Officer. He would have a career on stage as well, performing several of Shakespeare's works, while also, in 1993, appearing alongside future Doctor Peter Capaldi in Agatha Christie's Murder Is Easy.

Thompson died on July 16th. He was 82 years old.
