4 Reasons Sherlock Should End With Season 4

1. How Big Can (And Should) The Show Get?

One of the biggest criticisms about the show going forward is the fact that it's becoming less and less about private investigation and more about bigger threats. It's inevitable that the stakes would continue to go up year by year, but at this point Sherlock is slowly becoming James Bond. Hell, at one point Mycroft even tries recruiting him to MI6. He's already thwarted a plan to blow up parliament, and once it's revealed that Moriarty has returned, Mycroft brings Sherlock out of his four-minute exile claiming that London needs him. I get that the world needs a man like Sherlock Holmes to stop big terrorist threats, but the show's far more enjoyable when he and Watson are investigating the smaller crimes. That's where Conan Doyle's stories really shine, and keeping the show smaller and more personal, rather than giving Sherlock world-saving missions and turning him into some kind of secret agent, would be the best way to go. At this point, and with Moriarty coming back, that's probably not going to happen, so I say wrap up the Moriarty/Sherlock story, and end the show before it gets too big for its own good. Of course, Sherlock will most likely keep going, after the third season broke the show's own records for viewership (which will only continue to grow once the show airs in the States). But, however and whenever the show ends, I hope it goes out with a bang. Make sure to follow me on Twitter @JimLovesMovies for more Sherlock news and articles!
