Season €“ 2005/06, Network €“ ABC, Starring €“ William Fichtner, Eddie Cibrian, Kari Matchett, Lisa Sheridan, Tyler Labine, Alexis Dziena, Evan Peters, Ariel Gade, Aisha Hinds The initial success of Lost in 2004 paved the way for the commission of several sci-fi/mystery shows for the 2005-06 television season. These included Threshold, which centred on aliens who intended to alter humanity€™s DNA, and Surface, a series that began to explore the concepts of biotechnology and genetic engineering. The best of the lot, however, was Invasion, which focused on a small Florida town in the aftermath of a hurricane, during which aquatic lifeforms had begun to infiltrate their society by replacing its inhabitants, in a manner similar to its namesake, sci-fi classic The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The show benefited at the start of its run by airing immediately after Lost, but suffered from the fact that its marketing campaign was shelved due to parallels with the (then recent) Hurricane Katrina, which meant that despite critical acclaim and respectable ratings, the show was prematurely ended. On the plus side, its cancellation did free up William Fichtner€™s schedule, allowing him to take up the role of unhinged FBI agent Alexander Mahone in Prison Break, one of that show€™s finest characters.
