Brynden Tully, otherwise known as the Blackfish and uncle to Catelyn and Edmure, was initially feared to be one of the first major casualties of the television adaptation when he didn't appear in season one, having appeared from the first book onwards as one of Robb Stark's most trusted commanders.

These fears were dispelled in the third season, where he was introduced as a stern yet loyal lieutenant, not afraid to chastise his often incompetent nephew for actions that adversely affected Robb's campaign. These included allowing 'The Mountain' Gregor Clegane to retreat from battle in order to capture two minor Lannister teenagers.

During the Red Wedding, he excused himself from proceedings in order to empty his bladder, avoiding the massacre that resulted in Robb's death. Though not found amongst the dead, he has not been since amongst the living since either. Despite Walder Frey voicing concern about Brynden continuing to hold Riverrun in Robb's name, this possibility has not yet been explored on screen.

In the books, the Blackfish does exactly this, only relinquishing control following Jaime Lannister's threats to kill his nephew and unborn child. He then manages to escape before Frey forces take over the castle, however, going on the run.

Whether the series decides to have him hold Riverrun or already have him on the run, the Blackfish must surely return as one of the most formidable warriors in the Seven Kingdoms, perhaps in conjunction with a renewed Stark campaign in the North or as part of the North/Vale conflict that Littlefinger seems set on putting into motion.
