6 Reasons You Need To Watch Big Mouth
3. Great Song Parodies
Although there have only been a few in the first season, a definite highlight of Big Mouth has been its catchy and hilarious song parodies.
Much like Schoolhouse Rock taught young'uns back in the day about how a bill becomes a law, conjunctions, and the American Revolution, Big Mouth uses its songs to teach viewers important lessons like: how it's awesome to be a homosexual, how menstruation works, and why life is horrible and none of us are happy.
Songs are part of the show's comedic arsenal that is used to break the reality of the world the characters inhabit. The show is not structured around songs, and there are only a few in Season 1, so it's not a show where you expect a song every episode. Instead, songs are a fun pop-up bonus that put you in a different headspace from the other scenes. However, the few songs that are on the show are also impeccably written with great melodies. Thus, while ultimately the songs function as just another way the show doesn't take its "rules" seriously, they're still one of the best parts of the series.
