6 Reasons You Need To Watch Big Mouth
2. For Kids: It Teaches Genuinely Good Lessons
When you're a kid, it's hard to learn about sex, especially when you don't know what to ask of your elders, and your elders would much prefer you stay ignorant. Of course, even if adults were willing to teach you the facts of life, the way they present their teachings can be awkward at best, and cringeworthy at worst.
Big Mouth strikes the right chord when it comes to teaching its lessons to a large audience of kids and pre-teens. From nuanced stories about the fluidity of sexuality, to open dialogues about consent, to back and forths between a young girl and her genitalia voiced by Kristen Wiig (no seriously, I didn't make that one up), the show has a diverse range of tactics to impart its wisdom on the young'uns. And none of them ever come off as condescending, try-hard, or embarrassing. It all feels genuine without sacrificing the show's comedic tone.
If you happen to have children who are at or around that age when they'll start asking questions, rest assured: while Big Mouth will not replace a proper, comprehensive sex education, it can at least answer some questions those kids might have that could be too awkward to explain out loud.
