3. We Finally Know More About Yaz

While the spotlight was firmly on Ryan and Graham throughout series 11, Yaz was the companion with the most time in the limelight this year. Yaz began as a police officer with no intention to take charge of a situation like you'd expect she would given her profession. Instead, she'd gawp in The Doctor's general direction, smiling intently as she monologued about whatever for the fifth time that episode.

However, series 12 saw more to Yaz. We saw her from a time before The Doctor, before her police training, even. She was a troubled teenager, even attempting to run away from home before being talked out of it by a friendly police officer. This gave us the understanding as to why she became an officer in the first place, and even why she's grabbing life by the horns, and riding out the potential storm of wherever she goes. We're still not overly connected with her, like we were with Graham last series, but she's become so much more than just the The Doctor's biggest fan.
