Orange is the New Black is the new hit series from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan, and is a similarly good mix of drama, comedy and crime; all told from an insightful female perspective. Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) an uptight, law abiding 30-something living in New York, has her whole world rocked when she is sentenced to fifteen months in prison for a decade old crime she committed for her drug-dealing ex-girlfriend (Laura Prepon). Away from the comforts of her own materialistic life, Chapman soon discovers a world (and it's many zany characters) completely different than the one she knows. Why She'll Love It Not only does Orange is the New Black boldly reinvent the often clichéd prison drama genre, it also boasts some of the most tragically flawed and hilariously funny characters ever seen on TV. The overall storyline while exceptional, is often overshadowed by the supporting characters' own personal journeys - such is the sheer quality of the acting and writing. Couples Rating: 5/5 Hilariously dark without ever being overly melodramatic, the characters practically leap from the screen into your heart with each passing episode.
