7 New Star Wars TV Shows That Are In Development

4. The Acolyte

A little like Tales of the Jedi, The Acolyte is an upcoming Star Wars project where specifics are extremely minimal right now.

What is known is that Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland is serving as showrunner and lead writer on The Acolyte, and the series will be taking place in a place and time rarely explored previously in the grander Star Wars franchise. In terms of that time period, the belief is that this eight-episode offering will be set in and around the latter days of the High Republic era - which puts it roughly 100 years prior to the events of Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

If this is indeed the case, The Acolyte will play out in front of a backdrop where the Jedi Order is at the peak of its powers and protecting the galaxy. On the other side of the coin, this could result in the villainous, pirate-like Nihil being positioned opposite the Jedi here. Created in 2018 as part of the huge Star Wars: The High Republic cross-media project, the Nihil are a dominant, destructive race who look to rise up against the Jedi.

While it's far from confirmed, The Hunger Games' Amandla Stenberg is currently heavily rumoured to headline The Acolyte. As for when the show will debut, a premiere shouldn't be expected until at least mid-2023.
