Irish, rugged, and with previous form in historical epics (the actor appeared in both King Arthur and Rome), Ray Stevenson is very much in the mould of a typical Game of Thrones actor.

The actor revealed back in 2015 that he'd been offered a role, although he didn't divulge who. His reasoning was that he'd much rather have been a part of it from the beginning, when he was also seen but not offered a part, rather than coming into a pre-established world. He did add that he was offered a 4-6 month stint, which suggests he only would've been around for one season, although he could always have returned for more, which doesn't help narrow it down.

Stevenson didn't say when exactly he was offered the part, except that it's obviously after Season 1. Still, there are a number of options for who it could be. He would've made a great Victarion Greyjoy if they'd ever considered including him, but perhaps more likely is Mance Rayder, who was introduced in Season 3. Davos Seaworth is another possibility, since the role went to a fellow Northern Irish actor of a similar age in Liam Cunningham, or the recast version of Beric Dondarrion, who was reintroduced in Season 3 as Richard Dormer, having previously been played by David Michael Scott. Regardless of who it was, Stevenson would've been a superb addition to Thrones' cast.
