8 Best High-Fantasy TV Shows

The recent news of this shows cancellation came as no surprise, but a great disappointment. The ambitious series lasted for one season and sadly will not be returning, but it still ranks as one of the best fantasy outings of all time, and that is due to the sheer quality of its limited run.

The show is comprised entirely of puppets, which instantly makes it stand out among other similar shows.

Age of Resistance acts as the prequel series to the equally epic Jim Henson movie The Dark Crystal, and builds the world of the film incredibly well. With a large budget and an extremely star-studded cast, this show took the concept of the land of Thra and expanded it to create a living, breathing world that - despite featuring no live-action people - felt incredibly real.

The series is on Netflix, and if you are a fan of fantasy, you have to see it. The narrative, world building and characters are among some of the best in the genre. Had it been renewed it likely would have gotten even better.

Unfortunately, the costly budget and lack of viewing figures meant the final nail in the coffin for The Dark Crystal. Let us hope that it can still be appreciated by many regardless, though.
