8 Doctor Who Episodes Ruined By Their Endings

2. The Power Of Three

The Power Of Three gave us the chance to spend some quality time with Amy and Rory, before their departure in the following episode.

We get to see them living their ordinary domestic lives, including parties, barbeques, TV-watching, and work, and on top of this, there are also tons of scenes featuring Rory's dad, Brian - and more Brian is never a bad thing.

This side of the episode is satisfying and fun to see, but the same cannot be said of the other major component of the story: the invasion of the black cubes.

To be more precise, it's the conclusion of this specific plot thread that feels completely underwhelming (the air of mystery and dread surrounding the cubes for the first two-thirds of the story is handled really well). The perpetrator of the invasion shows up for a minute or two, does nothing, and then just disappears into thin air, while the Doctor fixes everything with a few waves of his sonic screwdriver.

There are rumours that behind-the-scenes drama led to this rushed and disappointing climax, but whatever the cause, The Power Of Three was only a polished ending away from being a truly great episode.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
