Breaking Bad could be a truly, truly dark saga, with moments of chaos and cruelty likely to stay with viewers forever (the fate of Jesse's girlfriend Jane being one such example). But the show also had a somewhat off-kilter sense of humour that subtly weaved its way through the series.

Perhaps the most outright hilarious scene, played almost entirely for laugh, is the cold open to the episode Better Call Saul (which would, of course, become the name of Breaking Bad's more comic-minded spin-off). An ingenious one-taker, the scene features a drug deal between useless stoner Badger and a nerdy customer who isn’t quite what he seems. Amusingly droll dialogue gives way to a brilliantly unexpected ending.
