8 Most Mindbogglingly Meta TV Show Cameos Ever

3. Carrie Fisher - 30 Rock

In the episode Rosemary's Baby, Fisher plays Liz Lemon’s feminist hero Rosemary Howard, who is invited to be a guest writer on the show. Unfortunately, the generation gap is especially pronounced and Rosemary proves too edgy and honest for Lemon’s prime time, inoffensive show.

Fisher's hilarious performance offers a timely and smart satire on the way ageism and sexism plagued her Hollywood career, as well as her own difficulty in being taken seriously as a female comic.

Some smart allusions to A New Hope add another meta dimension. Liz Lemon's gushing Star Wars fandom is a running joke throughout all of 30 Rock; the writers nod to this beautifully by having Fisher cry “Help me, Liz Lemon; you’re my only hope”.
