8 Perfect TV Finales Ruined By One Thing
2. The Haunting Of Bly Manor Series Finale - The Terrible Aged Cast
The final episode of Bly Manor was great in a lot of ways, and I would be lying through my teeth if I claimed I didn’t shed a tear (or, like, many of them). It was emotional, it tied everything together, it brought things to an understandable and satisfying end; it’s just a shame that it did that with a terribly cast bunch of actors.
The gimmick of revealing the narrator is the older version of a main cast member meant that she had to be mostly unrecognisable up until the reveal, and they achieved that by casting an American woman (Carla Gugino) to put on a really horrible British accent and pretend to be someone she looked nothing at all like (that being Amelia Eve).
Not limited to the fake Brit, we got to look at an entire room of mis-cast people who were nowhere near the ages they were meant to be. We assume that a maximum of about fifteen to twenty years has passed, and yet everyone has aged up by about fifty years to be fully elderly.
It’s nonsensical, visually off putting and the stupidity of the ageing process really takes away from literally everything else. It’s such a shame because it could have been beautiful, but instead all the beauty was overwritten by Carla Gugino trying to sound like she’s from Manchester.
