8 Scary TV Treats Coming This Halloween
6. Doctor Who: Arachnids In The UK
When & Where: BBC One/BBC America on October 28th
The eleventh season since the reboot of the adventures of the ever-changing Time Lord has had a largely successful beginning. Thirteenth doctor Jodie Whittaker has settled comfortably into the role and is receiving positive reviews and the opening episode had the series' biggest viewer figures since the 2013 50th anniversary specials (and the highest audience ever for a Doctor's debut episode).
One thing that the opening couple of episodes have not yet given us, however, is the time-honoured Doctor Who tradition of an episode or a monster scary enough to have kids (and their parents) cowering behind the sofa. Perhaps we'll have to wait for Halloween week for that.
Although it's unclear whether the episode will be explicitly set or themed around Halloween, Episode 4 brings our heroes back to their own place and time - specifically Sheffield and right now - with contemporary and real-feeling settings often being where New-Who likes to bring its creepier material (remember Blink).
As the title suggestions, Arachnids In The UK will see the Doctor and her new companions having to deal with some spooky spiders and promotional images for the episode have shown us a lot of Halloweeny cobwebs all over the place.
At its best Doctor Who can provide some of the best scary family entertainment around. Let's hope that this episode can give the new season a little of that.
