5. Karen Gillan In Selfie
Karen Gillan's introduction as the Eleventh Doctor's companion Amy Pond in Doctor Who proved to be a rather controversial one when the show came under fire for her rather... erm, suggestive choice of wardrobe but if you thought that the girl who waited was promiscuous, you ain't seen nothin' yet! To give credit where credit's due, though, Karen has done exceptionally well since leaving Doctor Who. It's hit and miss for most actors when they take the risk to leave the safety of the TARDIS but she managed to secure a number of diverse roles, both leading or otherwise, on the small and big screens (including her performance as super assassin Nebula in Marvel's 2014 blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy) before landing her biggest post-Who gig to date as the star of her very own ABC sitcom. Yes, Selfie wasn't all that great and it ultimately got cancelled by the network before its first season had even finished filming (you win some, you lose some) but what did make it from script to screen (or most of it, at least) showcased Karen's effortless ability to helm her very own series, which some would say she managed just fine in Doctor Who. Unlike Amy Pond, though, this role required her to quite literally bare all as her social media obsessed character, Eliza Dooley, attempted to reform her tarnished image by learning that real life relationships are much more important that online "friending"... or something like that, anyway. It was kind of like My Fair Lady but it was endorsed by Instagram and everyone kept saying "hashtag". Apparently her journey of self discovery involved having loads of sex, taking naked selfies (above) and partaking in random outbursts of provocative dancing in front of all of her colleagues, although her heart was in the right place.
