8 Times Doctor Who Actors Played Characters That Destroyed Your Soul
4. Matt Smith In Lost River
OK, so you probably haven't even seen this yet, unless you were one of the lucky (or should that be 'unlucky'?) audience members present for its initial ill-fated screening at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. To all extents and purposes, though, Matt Smith's legion of dedicated 'mobsters' were pretty damned excited when it was announced that he had been handpicked to star in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, How to Catch a Monster, back in 2013. The whole affair was to be as turbulent as his timey-wimey tenure aboard the TARDIS, however, because the movie, after being randomly renamed to Lost River, received unanimously negative reviews after its press premiere and the response was so bad that it wasn't even optioned for cinematic distribution (however it has since been revealed that it'll be getting a limited theatrical release in April). So surely's it's unfair, then, without any real evidence, for us to concur that Matt's performance will probably destroy our soul? Well, not really, because his fleeting inclusion in the trailer alone is enough to make us blush... and not in a good way, either. The Eleventh Doctor star takes on the elusive role of 'Bully' in the feature although nothing can be gauged about his character at all other than the fact he seems to be a psychotic freak who's obsessed with working out. Perhaps they're being ominous about him on purpose, though, and all of the naysayers (and trust us, there's a lot of 'em!) will be eating their words when it eventually reaches the public domain this spring. For now, though, there's not much to write home about a character whose only purpose in the trailer is to tell us to look at his muscles. Perhaps his upcoming role in Terminator Genisys will make more sense. Then again, maybe it won't.
