8 TV Show Reboots You Didn't Know Were In The Works

1. The Jetsons

Perry Mason Robert Downey Jr
Hanna-Barbera

The Original: One of the most beloved Hanna-Barbera properties, The Jetsons originally aired in the 1960s, following the wacky day-to-day lives of a futuristic family residing in Orbit City.

The Jetsons' whole schtick was to lovingly poke fun at all things space-related (like how The Flintstones portrayed a more comical version of the stone age), since, at the time, the Space Race was a massive cultural sensation, and capitalising on that buzz with a TV show made a lot of sense.

The Reboot: Like Animaniacs, The Jetsons has a hardcore legion of fans who grew up watching the animated show on a regular basis, so there's a huge built-in audience for a reboot like this.

But unlike Animaniacs, and unlike the original, this reboot won't be animated; it will be live-action.

This is an odd creative choice, given that The Jetsons' eccentric tone could end up being awfully cheesy and silly in a live-action setting (picture those bad early-2000s Scooby-Doo movies). Plus, with space travel not being as much of a novelty now as it was back then, what about The Jetsons makes it right for today's viewers?

We'll just have to wait and see. ABC and Warner Bros Television are producing this one, with Back To The Future director Robert Zemeckis exec-producing. The show will be written by Family Guy's Gary Janetti, and should be ready within a year or two.

Watch this space...

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
