8 Unusual Demands Made By Guest Stars On Family Guy
4. Rodgers & Hammerstein - Asked For A Fart Joke To Be Removed
Music is a very important aspect of Family Guy, and has been ever since the beginning. Seth MacFarlane has a great love of big band, is himself an exceptional singer, and never misses an opportunity to lace an episode with a big musical number.
In 'Mr. Saturday Knight', when Peter’s boss Mr. Weed came round for dinner, he wanted his family to impress. Before Chris, Meg, and Stewie went to bed, they gave a beautiful rendition of ‘So Long, Farewell’ from The Sound of Music.
Of course, writers Rodgers & Hammerstein didn’t star in Family Guy, but their song did. However, before this could happen, the show had to get permission from the Rodgers & Hammerstein Corporation. This was ultimately given, but with two conditions attached.
Firstly, the song was not to be made fun of, and secondly, a fart joke, completely unrelated to this scene, had to be removed from the script. Clearly, Seth MacFarlane wanted to include the number badly enough, and the joke was removed. They could just add another fart joke into the next episode anyway, right?
