Video game adaptations haven't had the best track record of being successful, but after the glowing response to Netflix's The Witcher, hope is on the horizon for gaming interpretations.

With a Resident Evil series on the way to fill the void The Walking Dead's ending will leave, HBO is looking in the direction of more character-driven apocalypse stories, and audiences will be treated to what is sure to be a gruesome and more mature direction, with The Last Of Us.

Helmed by the creator of the Chernobyl miniseries, the grim reality of a post-apocalypse wasteland appears to be in the right hands for what is asked of a Last Of Us series. Fans of the games know it's not a light-hearted romp through the wilderness, and the mature themes are sure to be interpreted brilliantly by HBO's creative team.

With Joel and Ellie still yet to be cast, it's anyone's guess as to who the two leads will be. Once boots are on the ground of production, the momentum of the series will really pick up. But for now, rejoice in knowing that a beloved video game with a narration not unlike a novel is about to be brought to the small screen by a studio that has a reputation for putting out quality television.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
