8 Ways The Walking Dead Season 10 Has Saved The Show

2. The Herd Is Thinned

Recently The Walking Dead has lost a lot of the core group in a very short amount of time. Carl went in Season 8, while Morgan was sent off to Fear The Walking Dead along with Dwight. In Season 9 itself, we lost Rick, Jadis/Anne, Maggie, Jesus, Tara, Enid and a whole host of more minor characters.

For any other programme this would have been disastrous, especially losing the central protagonist, but Angela Kang managed to do the impossible and turn those losses into gains by focusing more on the side cast, establishing the ‘core three’ of Daryl/Michonne/Carol and giving practically everyone else something interesting to do.

On a more technical level, removing the Sanctuary and Kingdom from play means that everybody is much closer together, and that’s a great way to keep all the actors present most of the time, as well as ramping up the horror, as the survivors feel more like underdogs.

Seasons 6-8 jumped way too often around in location, and thinning the cast is working wonders by keeping everyone on screen together.
