There are some well-loved familiar faces returning to the comic-book TV show sorta-genre, and one or two that also got renewed somehow. What's going on with each of them this season?

10. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Where We Left Off: Agent Coulson had lost a hand, Agent Simmons got swallowed by a monolith (but not fatally), and Terrigen crystals got into fish oil pills, making Inhuman super-powers an even more pressing concern than trans fats. And the rogue Agent Ward revived HYDRA on the general basis of "less with the Nazism, more with the S.H.I.E.L.D.-smashing."

Where We're Going: The agents look to be scattered worldwide this year, heading out to recruit more superbeings to their service. Meanwhile the government's new Advanced Threat Containment Unit (ATCU) tries to fill some of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s original role. A new Inhuman called Lash will have uncertain motives - just like pretty much everyone else on this show.

Latest News: The show seems to be getting more attention lately for its visual effects than its story, but it's doing well enough that ABC has ordered a pilot for a spinoff featuring Mockingbird/Bobbi Morris and Lance Hunter. And Jeremy Renner has indicated that he'd love for Hawkeye to pop up on the series, in his typically undiplomatic fashion.

Tomatometer Score: 90. This show still suffers from too many flat characters, an oddly unlikable Coulson and a concept that seems to change by the minute, but it's gotten a lot more exciting than just a way to kill time between Marvel movies.

Returning: September 29.
