Agent Carter: 10 Easter Eggs And References You Need To See

5. The Elder Vanko

Speaking of which, did the Russian surname of that Stark employee who was messing about with the retrieved nitramene seem familiar to you? That'll be because Anton Vanko is the son of Ivan Vanko, the main antagonist of Iron Man 2, played by Mickey Rourke as a dangerous nutter with those electric whip things and a parakeet on his shoulder. And a haircut that probably should've remained behind the Iron Curtain. Anton even made an appearance at the start of Iron Man 2, as a dying old man imploring his son to seek revenge on Stark Industries. Anton was super old then, whilst in Agent Carter he's young and fresh as a daisy. It turns out in that film that whilst Anton was a brilliant physicist, inventing the arc reactor, he also sold secrets to the Soviet Union. So whilst it remains to be seen if the full nature of Anton's double-crossing of Howard Stark and the United States in general comes into play in Agent Carter €“ or if he'll get a chance at becoming the Russian Iron Man, Crimson Dynamo €“ it's a neat bit of connective tissue to another part of the MCU.
