Agent Carter: 10 Easter Eggs And References You Need To See
6. A Shout-Out To Dr Erskine
A running theme throughout these two first episodes of Agent Carter are Peggy's desperate need to protect those closest to her, and her tragic inability to do so. First she lost Steve, and then she lost her room mate at the close of the first episode. One of her earlier and greatest losses, though, was when Dr Abraham Erskine was killed in Captain America: The First Avenger. That loss means no chance of a cameo appearance by Stanley Tucci in Agent Carter, reprising his role as the scientist who helped come up with the super soldier serum that helped Chris Evans go from head CGI'd onto a weakling body to full, real beefcake Steve Rogers, but his presence is felt throughout the season premiere nonetheless, much in the same way that Captain America's is. When Peggy goes to grab the nitramene detector that will help her in tracking down the stolen Stark tech she finds in the nightclub's vault, it's clear just for a second that he VitaRay in question was PROPERTY OF A. ERSKINE. The references to MCU continuity make Agent Carter feel of a piece with the movies, and they're a lot of fun to boot.
