Agents Of SHIELD: 10 Best Villains

Thanks to the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier late in the series' first season, the MCU was changed forever. With SHIELD in disarray and HYDRA exposed, Coulson and the team were suddenly thrust into a whole new world, one in which loyalty and trust had no choice but to be put under suspicion.

Though he'd appeared as a genuine ally to the team throughout their first year together, the big HYDRA revelation brought with it a one-two punch about John Garrett: His status as a member of the sinister organization and that he was, in fact, the mysterious Clairvoyant who'd been pulling the strings all season long.

Armed with a decent motivation to hate SHIELD for once leaving him for dead and suffering from the life-threatening residual effects of being the original Deathlok, Garrett ended up even further off the rails after being injected with GH 325. By season's end, however, Garrett was completely and utterly eradicated, but he helped close out the year by setting the bar that all who went on to follow in his footsteps had to aim for pretty high.
