Agents Of SHIELD: 20 Easter Eggs And In-Jokes You Probably Missed
10. "I wouldn't say I'm a true believer"
When asked about his loyalty to Hydra, John Garrett remarks that he wouldnt say Im a true believer, a catchphrase thats inextricably linked to Marvel legend Stan Lee in his correspondence to fans in letter pages, along with other esoteric phrases like Excelsior! that the writers havent quite found a way to squeeze into the shows dialogue quite yet. Lee also made his first television cameo in T.R.A.C.K.S. as a passenger on the train Coulson and his team are aboard, and probably by virtue of a television episode allowing a little more breathing space than a feature film gets much more screentime and dialogue than hes usually allowed. One wonders whether or not Lees been playing the same character in all of his MCU appearances, since its supposed to have a shared continuity. If so, that would make AoS Stan Lee the same one as the old coot at the end of The Avengers who doesnt believe in superheroes and the unfortunate milk-drinker from The Incredible Hulk who gets a lethal dose of gamma. Perhaps this is all ties in to the introduction of the Marvel Cinematic Zombies Universe...
