Almost Human: 5 Ways Rudy Stole The Show In 'The Bends'

1. "Passion In Your Work" Speech

Speech Rudy's shining moment in this episode is his monologue about how passion in your work can give it a life of its own. He tells this to The Bishop, the man behind the distribution of The Bends, in a particularly tense moment. Det. Paul had told Rudy to always resort to the truth, which will save you in a time of crisis. Here, Rudy is clearly talking about his work with robotics, explaining that approaching your work with reverence and "pour your very soul into it," it gets a life of its own and you "can grow very fond of that creation." It's a brilliant moment of introspection that give us a glimpse at the true Rudy Lom, who until now has merely been the comedic, quirky lab geek the department goes to when they need something. The speech, though immediately mocked by the drug dealers, is the height of the episode and is delivered perfectly by Cook. And there we have it! The 5 moments in which Rudy Lom shined in this episode, again showing that the writers on the show really care about all of these characters, and have formed an ensemble cast around their two charismatic leads that can elevate the proceedings on the show and deliver more than just awesome sci-fi action.
