American Horror Story: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best (So Far)
1. Season Two: Asylum
When it comes to American Horror Story's grasp of mystery, terror and compelling characters, no season can quite top Asylum.
Taking place in a mental institution called Briarcliff, where a number of strange happenings take place, it was the first time that mainstays Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange showed fans what they could do when given a new character to portray.
Whilst they all do well with their character changes, it is Jessica Lange who steals the spotlight as Briarcliff's stern and cold head nun, Sister Jude Martin. Jude is about as complex as AHS has ever gone with its characters, and Lange perfectly balances her more evil intentions with a plot which eventually turns her into an innocent and endearing victim.
There's also James Cromwell as Dr Arthur Arden, a former Nazi scientist who performs inhumane and shocking experiments on people in the facility, and enough shocks to keep you grounded through all of the season's 13 episodes.
There is a slight bump courtesy of the climatic alien abduction storyline, but this error in judgement is nowhere bad enough to stop Asylum being the best season AHS has ever delivered. Here's to hoping Season Ten is just as good.
