Episode: 2x07 – State v. Queen

Combatants: Oliver Queen vs. Count Vertigo

What Happened: With Diggle sidelined and Oliver stuck at court, Felicity ventures into the field in the world’s most impractical (if adorable) sleuthing outfit to investigate a possible cache of Vertigo. Unsurprisingly, she is captured by the Count.

The Count connects the dots and summons Oliver to Queen Consolidated. Oliver discovers the Count fondling Felicity as she is tied to a chair. The Count draws a gun, and the situation quickly escalates.

When he fails to gun down the vigilante, the Count drags Felicity in front of the windows to kill her with two syringes of pure Vertigo as penalty to Oliver. Oliver looses three arrows in quick succession at the Count, impaling him and knocking him backwards out of the windows to his death.

Why It Was Great: State v. Queen saw Oliver break his no-killing vow for the first time, but it was such an epic Big Dang Hero moment to see him strike down his opponent with hood down and features unobscured that it’s hard to blame Felicity (or viewers) for getting a bit swoony when he ignores his own bullet wound to place his hand on her cheek and assure her that she’s safe.

Winners: Oliver, Felicity, and shippers everywhere
