Background: Appearing predominantly as a figure in Oliver's Season 3 Hong Kong flashbacks, Tatsu Yamashiro seemed little more than the wife of Oliver's A.R.G.U.S. handler in her first few appearances. When Maseo fails to return after a mission, however, Mrs. Yamashiro's gloves come off. Oliver's attempt to engage the Triad for information backfires spectacularly, forcing Tatsu to come to the rescue. Armed only with a katana, she cuts down the Triad attackers while Oliver bleeds on the ground. Tatsu entered the action in the present following the midseason finale that saw Oliver defeated in his trial by combat. Maseo (now called "Sarab" by the League of Assassins) summons her to save Oliver's life. Oliver asks her to come back to Starling with him to train him in swordsmanship. Tatsu refuses, and they go their separate ways. Motivation To Join: Abandoned by her husband presumably after the death of their son, Tatsu seems to be drifting through existence as she mourns the life they might have lived. She and Oliver parted on good terms, however, and if she were to choose to channel her grief into fighting for others, a move to Starling would be entirely possible. Skills: Tatsu's abilities with a katana seem to rival Oliver's with a bow, to the extent that he believes her capable of effectively training him to defeat Ra's al Ghul in a rematch. Admittedly, Oliver doesn't always have the greatest judgment, but Tatsu's demonstration of swordplay in Hong Kong indicates that his faith in this case is not misplaced. Her fight with China white was a highlight of the flashbacks, and Tatsu in Starling could only be a good thing for everybody except the bad guys. Availability: Available! Without Maseo or Akio to tether her to any particular place, Tatsu could make the move to the Starling vigilante scene without too much trouble or too many strings attached. Forget Ray Palmer. Tatsu Yamashiro for regular in Season 4!
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
