Arrow Season 4: 10 Things That Must Happen

2. Felicity Has To Be More Than A Love Interest

Look at the gif above, watch it in all its glory: Felicity, the one member of Team Arrow not trained in physical combat, takes out a deadly assassin by throwing her tablet at him, like some sort of ultra-modern, high-tech Gambit. This was one of her standout moments last year, which were sadly few and far between. She was the breakout character of season 1, initially not even supposed to be a recurring role, nevermind a series regular, and in season 2 her awkward charm and wit firmly cemented her place in the hearts of viewers. That, though, was also when fans started to ship her and Oliver - Olicity - and it's that which has been the undoing of the character. The 'I love you' fakeout may have been a great moment, but then in season 3 she was reduced too much to being a love interest, not only for Oliver but for Ray Palmer as well, and her story arc was defined by these relationships. It was also defined by Sara's death, which hit her particularly hard and left her, like much of the show that season, extremely miserable. Hopefully now, with her and Oliver properly together, she can get back to being a key member of the team, the one who solves the problems, has a sunny outlook, and is always ready with a quip. Preferably that'll happen while she's with Oliver, as the show has built-up to that point for too long now, but if they can't return Felicity to her former glory then perhaps 'Olicity' is not in the best interests of the show.
