Battlestar Galactica: 10 WORST Things To Happen In The Colonial Fleet

2. Cylon Occupation

Perhaps the biggest tragedy of the Cylon Occupation of New Caprica stems from its inception in good intentions. The Cylon faction headed by Caprica Six and Boomer truly wanted to try and live together with the Humans, inspired by their own burgeoning humanity. However, while they may have organised the occupation from a place of perceived kindness, the Humans' reactions were entirely predictable.

From the beginning, there is resistance. Almost as immediately, there are arrests and killing. Starbuck is taken away by Leoben, with no news of her fate given to the colonists. Whatever good intentions there were are quickly lost in the murk of the 'snake pit', as Roslin later puts it.

More arrests come and more disappearances. Felix Gaeta is tricked into signing peoples' death warrants and Baltar is kept in place as head of a puppet government. A new, human police force is created, by the Cylons, with the aim of running security in the camp. It quickly becomes a death squad, with humans fighting humans, destroying yet more aspects of their souls.

While Admiral Adama and Commander Adama eventually manage to get the majority of the colonists off the planet, it comes with a heavy price: the loss of 5,197 people on New Caprica, and the loss of the much larger, much more advanced Battlestar Pegasus during the rescue.
