Better Call Saul: 10 WORST Things Jimmy Has Done
1. Becoming Saul Goodman
And finally, the worst thing Jimmy McGill did, the final straw, his most cold hearted act - becoming Saul Goodman at all.
He took advantage of Chuck’s suicide, his final letter to him, and Kim’s worry and concern to trick his way into being reinstated as a lawyer.
When the fires had died down, everyone mourned for Chuck and everything bad he had done was forgiven but Jimmy’s remorse was there in a moment, gone in the next. Even Kim and Howard were baffled at Jimmy’s sudden shift into optimism and cheer. It was at this moment that Jimmy had gone, and Saul Goodman was born.
But the moment we realised just how far Saul had come and Jimmy had been gone, was in front of the board when Jimmy used his sorrow over Chuck’s death to be reinstated.
He played off everyone's reactions, Kim’s included, and was disingenuous about how much he missed his brother. How he hoped that even though he would never be as good as Chuck, his brother would still somehow be proud of him. Jimmy promises the board that if he were to get his license back he would do everything in his power to be worthy of the name McGill.
It’s a powerful emotional moment, but torn down in moments when Jimmy relishes in his victory to trick the board, and immediately decides to practise law under the name Saul Goodman. Any shred of goodness disappears in that, moment, and we just like Kim are left in a state of shock as now Saul smiles quips “S'all good, man."
