The Big Bang Theory: 8 Reasons To Be Excited About Season 8

3. Penny€™s Mother Could Have A Very Familiar Face

One of the central themes of season eight is bound to be the consequences of Penny and Leonard€™s engagement: everything from Sheldon€™s continued disavowal of any form of change in their living arrangements, to nerves and cold feet on the part of the bride-to-be (presumably Leonard is fine with it), to€ actually planning the wedding. Maybe we€™ll even find out what Penny€™s last name is, after all this time. We€™ve already met Penny€™s father Wyatt, played with avuncular gusto by Keith Carradine, and Leonard€™s mother, the drily calculating Beverley (the brilliant Christine Baranski). Leonard€™s own father could easily be introduced at some point€ an anthropologist, he may well work at Princeton University, as he apparently had an affair with a waitress at the cafeteria there, but that€™s pretty much all we know about him. Penny€™s been on the phone to her mother a couple of times during the show, but we don€™t know much about her either, aside from the usual €˜white trash€™ jokes about her upbringing in working-class Nebraska. However, Kaley Cuoco has made it very clear that she€™s lobbying for Lisa Kudrow to play her. Famous, of course, for playing the oddball hippy Phoebe Buffay in Friends, Kudrow might seem too young to play the mother of a woman in her late twenties, but is actually 51 years old €“ she was over 30 when Friends premiered in 1994. She€™s also by far the most talented of the female cast of the classic sitcom, and bringing her in for a guest appearance (or even an extended role) would be a serious coup for the show.
