Blood Of Zeus: 10 Greek Mythology References You Might Have Missed
9. The Giants
The Giants in the series are a direct references to the giants of Greek myth, though there are enough creative liberties taken with them to make them look much more impressive in the series, with some ingenious and intriguing designs that set them apart from each other.
However, not every design was from the mind of a particularly creative concept artist alone. Some of the giant designs are taken directly from descriptions in Greek myth. One of the most obvious examples is that of the Cyclops, the one-eyed giant, as well as the Hecatoncheires, the hundred-handers. Recently, Powerhouse Animation released character design sheets identifying the giants's horned leader as Porphyrion, "the greatest of the giants".
The surviving renditions of the giants from previous centuries don't do much beyond make them a bit bigger, some of them bearing odd features like tentacled legs, but Powerhouse ultimately went with designs that made them more memorable, and terrifying, than the simpler portrayals of centuries past.
