Bob's Burgers: Every Halloween Episode Ranked Worst To Best

3. Nightmare On Ocean Avenue Street (Season 9, Episode 4)

Bob's Burgers Nightmare On Ocean Avenue Street
FOX

This is another episode in which the opening sight gag directly influences the plot. When Teddy asks to decorate the restaurant so he can show up the handyman at the store next door, Bob becomes gradually wrapped up in the competition. This leads to some great visuals, including a giant spider with chainsaw legs.

Meanwhile, the A-story follows the Belcher kids on a mission to find out who's been stealing Halloween candy from kids around town. The general plot thread feels a bit like "Full Bars," with a typical candy-seeking adventure escalating into a thrilling chase against the episode's antagonist. In practice, however, "Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street" hits its comedy beats much more consistently while managing to take us through a greater variety of Halloween-themed settings.

"Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street" is also the first episode to heavily feature the Belcher kids' portmanteau pun costumes. While similar jokes did appear in previous seasons, they become a regular feature of all Bob's Burgers Halloween episodes from this point forward. Gene and Louise are especially enjoyable, costumed respectively as Andre 3000 the Giant and the Dragon with a Girl Tattoo.

It's not as memorable as "Full Bars" by a longshot, but the laughs are a lot more consistent while they last.
