14. Flynndependence, New Mexico

There were a few endearing things about Walter Jr. But only a few. He was the King of Breakfasts. And he was always a very respectful, polite kid. He never let his Cerebral Palsy hold him back, and he seemed to have a very strong moral grounding. But he also had some of what Woody Allen called "quirks and mannerisms" that definitely fell into the "obnoxious" category. Before we talk about the "Flynn" thing, let's look at Walter Jr. on the phone. He could often be counted on to start yelling and make a scene. In the final episodes, we came to expect that if Junior picked up a phone, in many cases, he'd start yelling before the call was over. (Yeah, like Principal Carmen wouldn't notice "Flynn" shrieking into the phone, "Why aren't you dead yet?") Whenever it happened, we collectively grit our teeth and sometimes even shouted at the TV, "Oh, just shut up, FLYNN, willya?!" Which brings us to his new name. Flynn? Really? Where did that come from? But let's cut him some slack and acknowledge his youth as the source of this particular ludicrous affectation. But slack will not be cut for his refusal to answer to his, y'know, REAL name. That's just purely obnoxious. The breakfast scene in which Skyler has to instruct Walt to re-summon Walt Jr. to the table by calling him Flynn was ridiculous. And you could kind of tell that Walt thought so, too.
