Broadchurch Finale: 12 Questions That Still Need Answering

5. What Were The Secrets Joe Miller Threatened To Expose?

When the show was setting up Joe's claim for freedom, his assumed innocence - or at least his reluctance to go to prison - seemed to stem from his knowledge of everyone else's dirty secrets. He clearly believed they would be sufficient currency if push came to shove to get him cleared. Ok, so maybe he was simply being desperate and scrabbling for freedom, but Paul didn't seem to react like someone in the face of empty bluster, and then very little ended up being revealed about this apparent ball of secrets. In the end, it seems Mark's brief affair (which nobody knew about, unless Joe looked out of the window of the shack, while murdering Danny - which seems a bit rich) was the only real secret. Unless they just conveniently forgot it was in the script.
