Brooklyn Nine-Nine: 10 Most Hated Supporting Characters
9. Jimmy Brogan
They say that you should never meet your heroes, and in the case of Jake Peralta it is true. However, had he never actually worked with Jimmy Brogan, he would have continued to aim his adoration and respect to a man who couldn't have been any less deserving of it.
Brogan wrote 'The Squad', the book that made Peralta want to become a cop, but while he idolised the gritty no nonsense 1970's NYPD scene, he was looking through rose tinted glasses. According to Holt, back then corruption, brutality, sexism, homophobia, and racism were at the forefront of the department, and Jimmy Brogan still proudly encompassed all these aspects over 30 years later.
He didn't respect Santiago, despite the fact that she was a brilliant detective, yet he did respect Jake simply because he was too hungover to catch a perp. Amy was right when she described him as a caveman.
Thankfully, Jake eventually saw that his admiration for Brogan and the 1970's NYPD was misplaced, as his former hero disrespected Captain Holt just because he was gay. He received a swift punch to the face from Peralta, and it was more than deserved.
