Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina: Part 3 Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs
2. The Main Villains Aren't All That Interesting
Sabrina's hellish saga with Lucifer and Lilith sizzled its way through the whole of the first season, as the writers expertly turned the heat up on the twisted family affair over the course of the 20 episodes - occasionally allowing it to overflow with tension before it exploded in both the finales of Parts 1 and 2. And while it wasn't perfect, Sabrina's attempts to outwit the all-powerful 'Dark Lord' remained edge-of-seat stuff throughout.
While it was always going to be hard for them to top that here, the old Gods and the Pagans never quite held our attention in the way that Satan or Father Blackwood (at the time) ever did. That's not because were they weren't perceived as threats because, for the most part, the writers did a swell job of making sure that we knew they weren't folk to be trifled with. The only problem is that they achieved this through reputation and actions alone.
Pan and his travelling circus aren't all that developed as characters, so they just aren't all that interesting. And as a result, it was hard to get invested in the storyline in the same way that we did in the previous installments.
