Community: 10 Best Ben Chang Episodes
5. Modern Warfare
No television show has done more for the paintball industry than Community. One look at Ben Chang waltzing into the study room like a Bond villain, coating the walls in theatrical slow motion, is enough to make anyone book a ticket with their nearest paintball provider.
“Modern Warfare” is the pièce de resistance of Harmon’s parodies. A homage to '90s action movies with a sprinkle of post-apocalyptic influence, Harmon turns Greendale into a paint-filled nightmare for the study group. Their enemies include roller-skating disco fiends, tree-hugging Glee fanatics and, of course, Senor Chang.
Chang’s role in this episode is small but it leaves an iconic footprint. Hired by Dean Pelton to win the game of paintball, Chang fills the role of supervillain’s henchman in order to dispose of Britta and Jeff, the last survivors of the game. The ultimate gag with Chang’s role in this episode, is that he is terrible at paintball, which suits his over-confident persona to a tee.
But what’s so funny? Attaching a paint based explosive device to the inside of your jacket is well in-line with the kind of hilarious insanity we come to expect from Ben Chang.
