Community: 10 Best Troy Barnes Moments

"Set phasers to love me!"

Donald Glover's role as Troy Barnes in Community brought him to many people's attention. The character's blend of simple humour, emotionality and charm made him a fan favourite and one of the funniest members of the study group.

Troy is a character who sticks with you after the show. He had the second shortest run of the original group, leaving not long after Chevy Chase in season 5. Despite not being in most of season 5, and not appearing in Yahoo's Season 6, Troy remains as one of the strongest aspects of Community, with his absence being felt in the show once he was gone.

This is partly due to the incredible moments Troy had on the show. He was brilliant at delivering hilariously dumb one-liners and not understanding basic moments. He was a character with a childlike attitude and a joy for his life. As one half of Troy and Abed, perhaps the best friends TV will ever see, he sold the show and his character development across the series as a whole made him one of the funniest and most heartwarming characters to walk the halls of Greendale.

Here are his greatest moments!

10. Talking About Fighting

While this is technically two Troy moments, both occur within the same episode and are both hilarious.

In the episode Comparative Religion, Jeff gets into a fight with a guy called Mike who harassed Abed. In this scene it is revealed that Jeff has never been in a fight.

This is where the first Troy moment comes in. While recounting his fighting experience Troy says:

"I remember the first time I ever got punched in the face. At first, I was like OH No, but then I was like, this is a story."

He says this with a knowing smile but never elaborates, leaving that experience as the entire story. It's a small moment but sums up some of the inherent lovable simplicity of Troy's character.

There is a similar simplicity to the second moment, which comes when they're training Jeff for the fight and Shirley walks in. Troy, trying to hide what they were doing says:

"We were trying to get Jeff ready for the fiiiiiiiiiight".

Troy draws out the last word as he can't think of anything else to say to hide it. Troy is a simple character, and a lot fo the moments of his humour come from this simplicity. Both of these moments show that well and inject good laughs into the episode.
