Daredevil Season 2: 10 Things That Must Happen
3. Born Again
Season One of Daredevil was not afraid to put its hero through the ringer. He is stabbed, beaten, and near death on at least two separate occasions. This is entirely in keeping with the comic book history of the character, as Matt Murdock has been through more trials and tribulations in his life than most costumed do-gooders, with even his loose grip on his own sanity being threatened from time to time.
Born Again, by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, is one of the most celebrated Daredevil stories, and the one that breaks its hero down the most. In this opus, a heroin addicted Karen Page sells the information that Murdock is Daredevil in order to get another hit. This makes its way to the Kingpin, who then proceeds to systematically destroy Murdock's life in every way imaginable.
He influences the IRS to freeze Murdock's bank accounts, which leads to the bank foreclosing on his home. He then pays a dirty cop to testify that he saw Murdock perjure himself in court, which is closely followed by a firebombing of Matt's apartment. Now homeless, Matt begins to suffer from extreme anger and paranoia.
Imagine D'Onofrio, Cox and Deborah Ann Woll playing out this intense story over the course of a season. The emotional rollercoaster that the audience would be taken on would surely make for absolutely gripping television.
