DC's Stargirl Season 1 Review: 10 Ups & 2 Downs
8. The Uplifting Tone
Ahead of Stargirl's first season, a lot of fans weren't really sure what to expect. It didn't look like the DC Universe's notoriously grim programming while its position on the platform separated it from secondary home The CW's Arrowverse programming.
The truth is that Stargirl doesn't fall into one bracket or the other. It's not exclusive to either and yet similar to both. And the primary reason for that is its wonderfully uplifting tone.
Though it possesses an incredibly high standard of both writing and storytelling, its tone is that of a more traditionally classic superhero series. It's fun and light-hearted, focusing on the enthusiasm that the titular hero possesses when it comes to living up to Starman's legacy.
Unlike some of DC Universe's other originals, Stargirl's tone is never inconsistent and it ultimately thrives because of that. However, its also doesn't devolve into corny territory - a constant risk for light-hearted superhero programming. It knows exactly what it wants to be throughout its entire run and the result speaks for itself - because Stargirl is, without a doubt, the most enjoyable superhero show on television (and streaming) today.
